Last tryout for NMI men’s basketball team tomorrow

The Mariana Islands Basketball Federation will be holding the final day of tryouts for the CNMI national men’s basketball team tomorrow, Saturday, from 1pm to 4pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

MIBF development officer Elias Rangamar, who started conducting tryouts for both men’s and women’s players last week, said representatives from Rota and Tinian are expected to join the weekend event.

The tryouts are for the national teams that would be competing in the 2018 Micronesian Games set from July 15 to 28 in Yap. Those who want to try out must follow the Micronesian Games’ residency rule—at least a five-year resident of the country they will be representing.

Rangamar is hoping to name the final composition of the two teams before March so that they could start their training and preparation for the Micro Games. After working with the candidates—drills and other skills tests—Rangamar said he will be compiling his assessment of each player and would talk to them one at a time to discuss why they are chosen or why they miss the cut. Rangamar is hoping to form competitive teams (men’s and women’s) that could matchup with the region’s top squads.
