LGBT celebrates Gay Pride at GIG
The CNMI’s LGBT community celebrated its first ever Gay Pride event last Sunday night at the GIG Discotheque in Garapan. About 60 people attended.
Event organizer Sharmaine Casquero, who described the event a success, thanked all the attendees, performers, supporters, and donors of the show.
“The celebration brought laughter and good times to each and everyone. It was also a celebration of individuality and uniqueness of who you are,” she said.
Casquero hopes for a bigger celebration next year and that more CNMI community members will attend to show their support for the islands’ LGBT community.
The highlight of the event was the performance of the group Paper Dolls, who gave an entertaining drag show. Members of the Paper Dolls are Nesty, Nhemie, Joanne, Jolly, Noel, J.D., Rica, and Patrick.
Fifteen members from the Saipan Music and Dance Studio also gave the opening act. The dance group will be representing the CNMI at an international competition in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be their second time to compete at the event; the first one was in 2016.
Division of Public Health John Dax Moreno also gave a short message about health concerns of the LGBT community.
