The Saipan Filipino-American Lions Club has resumed its repair and repainting of bus stop shelters by adding two more that they adopted. The bus stops that were spruced up last Feb. 28 are located near the Northern Marianas College area going to Finasisu and As Lito Road.

The non-profit group said this is their way of supporting the Public School System’s program of rehabilitating and restoring all bust stops. The SFALC was also allowed to put their logo after painting the bus stops.

“This project is a good gesture in giving back to the community knowing it will be the students who are going to benefit in the beautification of these bus shelters,” said SFALC president Annamae Adaza.

Adaza added that they are also appealing to the students and other members of the community to avoid in vandalizing the shelters and instead keep its cleanliness and neatness.

“At the same time appreciate those companies, individuals, groups, and organizations like [SFALC] for the effort in painting and cleaning the bus stops,” Adaza said.

SFALC also renovated several bus shelters in Tanapag in early February. Most of the bus shelters were damaged by Typhoon Soudelor in August last year.

SFALC vice president Rey Joson then thanked their members in helping repaint and repair the bus shelters. “We are thankful to our Fellow Lions who devote their time in doing the project and to our District Governor Daniel Yang for the support.”

“The Lions clubs are always ready to help [the community where they are]. They are making a difference around the world. Whenever the Lions get together, problems get smaller and communities get better,” he added.

The Lions is composed of 46,000 local clubs that has over 1.4 million members in 200 countries, making it the world’s largest community-based organization. The Lions Club International will be celebrating its 100th founding anniversary on June 7 next year.
