The Saipan Marianas Lions Club is scheduled to hold a fundraising car wash on July 8, Sunday, at the parking lot of McDonald’s Middle Road branch for the benefit of the Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Band.
The car wash will cost $5 for exterior cleaning only, and an additional $5 for vacuuming inside the vehicle. A package deal including tire foam wash is available for only $20.
Apollo M. Madriaga, president of the Saipan Marianas Lions Club, said that the car wash will be done by both Lions and band members.
Madriaga said they will be distributing at least 200 tickets for the band members and the Lions to reach the $1,000 goal in support of the Manta Ray Band’s quest to travel to London next month to perform at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The award-winning band is still short of the $250,000 amount they need for the trip.
“The Saipan Marianas Lions Club supports the talented Manta Ray Band as they reach for their goal to represent the CNMI with pride in the upcoming Olympics so we’ll do our part to help them in their fundraising efforts,” Madriaga told Saipan Tribune.
This would be the second time for the Saipan Marianas Lions Club to provide financial assistance to the Manta Ray Band, according to Madriaga. The club also raised funds in 2010 to help the band make it to New York for a historic performance at Carnegie Hall, the world’s most famous concert hall.
“We hope that the community will support this fundraising car wash because all proceeds will go to the Manta Ray Band,” said Madriaga.
He noted that those who do not want to avail of the car wash but are willing to help can still donate to the cause by making direct donations to the band. For more information, call 287-4501.
