The Northern Marianas College Board of Regents held their election of officers Monday afternoon, with Juan T. Lizama voted as chairman, Elain Hocog Orilla as vice chairman, and Michaela Sanchez as treasurer.

The regents voted unanimously for Lizama, according to Orilla.

Lizama had been chairman in years past. Orilla retains her post.

Lizama replaces Frank Rabauliman, the previous chairman, who was also elected unanimously in December 2013. Rabauliman had succeeded Lizama, who had led the board during a period of accreditation sanctions the college had faced.

The board chair is seen as the “spokesperson” of the board, representing them and leading them as they govern the college.

The position has a term of one year. Regents elect a chairperson every year.

Maria T. Peter, William Torres, and Elizabeth Rechebai make up rest of the board of regents.
