The Ol’Aces and Ace Hardware eased past their respective opponents in the Mariana Islands Basketball Federation’s Inaugural Men’s Outdoor League last Wednesday night at the San Antonio court.

In the curtain-raiser, the Ol’Aces showed no love lost to sister team the Junior Ol’Aces, 92-69, while in the second match, Ace Hardware walloped the Chinese Association, 92-46.

The Chinese Association kept up with Ace Hardware only in the first quarter, as the former was up by only 7, 17-10, before pulling away in the remaining three periods.

The debuting Ace Hardware drew 22 points from Ken Viray to rout the Chinese Association, while Sid Quan and Alex Lauron also finished in double figures with 18 and 14, respectively.

Mii Tekopua paced the Chinese Association with his 15 markers and clearly lacked support from his teammates, as only four other players on the squad made it to the board in its first game in the inaugural league.

Ace Hardware, on the other hand, got enough contributions from other players to complement Viray, Quan, and Lauron’s good games. Seven other Ace Hardware players scored and four of them had at least 5 markers each.

In the first game, Jack Lizama led the way for the Ol’Aces, as he sizzled for 28 points. The Ol’Aces improved to a 2-0 record to get the early lead in the open division of the league.

Preston Basa, Jesus Iguel, and Romeo Iginoef backed Lizama up, combining for 49 points. Basa, who had 9 markers in their 79-65 debut win over GMI Market, this time hit double figures, recording 17. Iguel chipped in 16—a big improvement from his 4-point production in their first game—and Iginoef had the same output in his debut with the Ol’Aces.

Dean Blake registered 15 points for the Junior Ol’Aces, who dropped to an 1-1 record.
