Man arrested for alleged possession of child porn
Federal agents arrested a man on Monday for allegedly having in his possession a laptop that contained child pornographic materials.
Vincent M. Songsong was indicted on one count of child pornography. The indictment was filed in the U.S. District Court for the NMI last Thursday but was unsealed only on Monday afternoon.
According to the indictment, from Feb. 17, 2014, until Feb. 25, 2014, Songsong knowingly possessed a laptop computer containing a visual depiction of a child less than 12 years old engaging in sex.
At the initial appearance hearing on Monday afternoon, Songsong appeared with court-appointed counsel Colin Thompson.
Thompson asked the court to set the arraignment on the same day as the detention hearing.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy set the detention hearing for Friday at 10am.
Assistant U.S. attorney Ross Naughton moved to unseal the case. The judge granted the motion.
Kennedy remanded Songsong into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
While not making lite of this type of crime, it is interesting that the Feds can spend the time needed on this trype of case to gather evidence and stay away from other cases such as what Fitial (and others) was involved with (ex: releasing a Fed detainee) among others.
I am curious as to just how they (Feds) gather evidence on a laptop computer?
I am also curious if this was the same laptop that once belonged to the FBI agent’s son that had the tracking program installed in it?
The same one that got the teacher indicted and prosecuted.
I feel sorry for Thompson (or any att.) being ‘appointed’ as defense counsel for these types of crimes.
It also seems that this defendants name has come up many times in the news.
