Man gets 30-day prison term for choking wife
A man who choked his wife in front of their children pleaded guilty on Thursday and was slapped with a 30-day prison term.
Phaibun Pomdi, 39, pleaded guilty to assault and battery (domestic violence) and disturbing the peace as part of a plea deal.
Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja sentenced Pomdi to a year and six months in prison, all suspended except for 30 days, to be served with no possibility of parole.
Pomdi was given credit for four days of time served. He will be placed on probation for 18 months.
Naraja allowed Pomdi to serve the prison term during weekends.
Pomdi was also ordered to pay a $25 court cost, $500 fine to be converted to community service, and $160 probation fees.
As part of the plea deal, the Office of the Attorney General dropped the assault with a dangerous weapon charge.
According to the factual basis of the plea deal, Pomdi grabbed his wife’s neck, choked her, and pushed her in the presence of their two minor children on June 23, 2013, on Saipan.
Police stated that the couple, along with their children, had just arrived home in San Antonio at 9pm after visiting her in-laws when the incident happened. Pomdi allegedly took a knife and beat up his wife. Pomdi finally let go of his wife when she cried and told him that their two children were watching.
