May 19 deadline for LibDay beer concessionaires bid

Beer distributors or vendors have until May 19 to submit their application for one of the five slots reserved for them by the 2016 Liberation Day committee. At least 25 concessionaires—food and others—have signified their intention to join the carnival that opens on June 10.

The committee met Wednesday morning at the Saipan Mayor’s Office conference room and also agreed to set the concession fee at $1,500, which will be applied to even vendors of food and non-food items.

New player Saipan Brewery has expressed interest of buying one of the five concessions, while the committee has yet to hear from Pacific Trading Co. MARPAC has already informed the committee that they won’t be participating this year and would promote their products in a different way.

The five slots are on a first-come, first-serve basis and the committee is advising those interested to reserve their spot. The committee will no longer entertain other applicants once the five slots have been filled.

Liberation Day committee chair Chris Leon Guerrero added that they would give everyone the opportunity to apply before allowing a beer concessionaire to buy more than one slot.

The committee, like in the past, will only allow beer to be sold and no hard liquor. Beer sold will also be put into clear cups. The Northern Marianas Bartenders Association, if they would join, would follow the same rules and will also sell non-alcoholic beverages.

The committee has reserved five tents for the concessionaires with their area, called beer garden, away from the food and non-food items vendors.

Logistics committee chair Mac Chargualaf has also advised the beer concessionaires to see him at the Mayor’s Office to discuss the tent size if they will be using their own. The tent size is 13X13 feet for each of the five beer concessionaires.

There are also at least 25 food and non-food items vendors who signified their intention to join while the rides are still under negotiations with those who are interested with the committee’s main concern is the safety of the kids.

The committee has also asked several businesses to sponsor one of the 29 candidates for the Liberation Day Royal Court to help them with their fundraising activities.
