Military training ongoing on Saipan

A Guam-based naval group will be on island for five days to conduct military training and other military exercises.

According to Joint Region Marianas spokesman Brad Ruszala, the public should not panic if helicopters are seen flying in the northern part of the Commonwealth.

Ruszala said yesterday the Guam naval group arrived on Saipan and started their training on Nov. 27, and will continue to do so until Dec. 1. The training includes mock extractions, search and rescue, and more.

Homeland Security and Emergency Management organized the training in conjunction with the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit 5.

The training areas are the Kan Pacific Baseball Field, La Fiesta, Kagman Detention Center, the Telesource building at the Saipan International Airport, and the radar station in Marpi.

Ruszala said the exercises are not only taking place on Saipan. Other trainings are being done in Guam and in other Northern Marianas regions as well, depending on the drills that the military plan to conduct.
