A big second half push by A Division’s Mobil overwhelmed Ashley’s (1-4), 91-74, in the first pairing, while B Division’s NVM tore through Cargo Express (2-3), 91-66, in the late game.

Mobil evened its win-loss card to 2-2, while NVM notched its third win in five games.

The regular season wraps up in Garapan on Thursday with the first rounds of the playoffs set for Saturday night. Games start nightly at 6:30pm and 8:30pm.

The rest of the standings show A Division’s QQ Rent-A-Car (4-1) leading DLX (3-1), R-Rebels (3-1), and Star Water (0-4) with B Division’s Loving Hands (4-1) pacing Wanted Sponsor (3-2), Saipan Hardware (3-2), and Hip Hop Thunder (1-4).

In the first game, 6 early points from both Jack Lizama and Dennis Cortez provided a 16-12 favor for Ashley’s in the opening 10 minutes. Perry Inos then came off the bench for 9 markers in the second quarter that kept Ashley’s in front, 36-32, at halftime.

Mobil’s half court set up started slow from the tip, but its point man Jun Estolas began to show signs of heating up after coming out scoreless in the first frame.

Mobil buckled down after the break and made Ashley’s pay for its physical defensive scheme in the third quarter that helped establish a 63-56 lead heading into the final period.

A handful of points by Mobil’s Bryan Ajoste and Jorge De Guzman, along with 5 from the stripe by Estolas, factored into the uprising.

Ashley’s treaded off four treys in the third quarter, but could not keep pace with Mobil’s transition game late in the game.

De Guzman and Angelo Fernando delivered 6 points apiece as they cruised to the easy win.

Estolas led three teammates in double digits with 20, while Ashley’s Lizama scrambled for 19 on the other end.

In the second game, Preston Basa shot out of the gate with a dozen points that gave NVM an early 21-15 lead in the first quarter.

Cargo Express answered with a pair of threes and 6 points by Bruce Berline, but NVM remained in control, 38-31, at intermission.

Cargo Express broke down at some point in the third quarter as NVM began to run away, 69-46. NVM sunk three from downtown, two of which came from Rocyl Ritual who tallied 10 checks in the charge.

Cargo Express never postured a comeback in the last quarter although its center Berline led all scorers with 22 points. NVM’s Basa led three teammates in double figures with 21.
