Monsoon flow to bring strong winds, showers

Persistent monsoon flow is expected to bring strong southwest winds and scattered showers and thunderstorms to the CNMI and Guam for the next few days, according to the U.S. National Weather Service Guam last night.

NWS said depending on how the monsoon flow develops, periods of heavy rainfall and flooding are possible later this week for the Marianas.

NWS said west swell of 9 to 10 feet and hazardous combined seas of 10 to 13 feet will persist in the Marianas waters the next several days.

High surf is also expected most of the week along west facing shores and at times along north and south facing shores as well.

NWS said the greatest threat from this monsoon weather comes from the marine conditions.

NWS advised the public not to venture into the coastal waters until hazardous seas and dangerous rip currents subside.
“Stay out of the surf and do not go out beyond the reef!” the weather agency said.
