Tan Holdings Brewers' Vince Cepeda, seen here in a file photo, pitched a one-hitter in his team's 5-1 victory over IP&E Fielders in the SMLBA last June 13 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield. (Walter Sutherland)  The Saipan Stevedore Company Northern Yankees (6-1) routed the IP&E Fielders (2-4), 14-3, in Tuesday’s Saipan Major League Baseball Association matchup held at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfileld.

The Yankees’ sixth win in seven games allowed it to keep pace with unbeaten Ol’Aces (5-0) and the Tan Holdings’ Brewers (6-1) in the standings.

In other results, the Brewers (6-1) bested the Fielders, 5-1, on Wednesday, June 13, while the Ol’Aces defeated the St. Michael’s Medical Response Angels (2-3), 9-4, back on June 6.

Notably, the Brewers and the Ol’Aces were recently awarded forfeit victories over the Angels and the Rep. Sylvester Iguel Masters (1-5). The Angels did not show up for its match on Monday, while the Masters endured an automatic loss on Wednesday for not having their uniforms ready.

There was a game scheduled last night between the Brewers and the Rep. Ray Yumul D-9ers (0-6); details will be released next week. From there, the season continues at the Tan Ko Field Monday night at 6:30pm when the D-9ers square off against the Fielders.

Yankees 14, Fielders 3

The Northern Yankees broke out to a 5-2 lead after two innings with four runs in the top of the inning primarily off sketchy pitching and the Fielders were never able to climb out of the early hole.

After managing two runs in the bottom of the second frame, the Fielders only mustered one more run later in the sixth inning as the Angles pitching duo of J.P. Sablan and Dave Jones kept them in check from the rubber.

The Angels, on the other hand, moved further ahead, 8-2, in the fifth inning off two hits and a sacrifice fly by Dave Camacho Jr. Gary Cruz also bashed an RBI single, while Frank Robert grounded in a run.

The Angels’ top of the order nearly put the run-rule into effect, 12-3, after the next inning with four more runs off three more hits as Cruz bagged a two-RBI single.

They then worked around two more runs in the seventh inning thanks to a clutch two-RBI triple by John Salas with two outs before securing the early decision.

Salas batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs, and two bases on balls. Cruz went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a run, and a base on ball. Fielders’ Ryan Ada scored twice.

Brewers 5, Fielders 1

Brewers’ Clifton Sillil and Darren Pua reached on a bean ball and a free pass in the first inning and both made it home for an early 2-0 lead. Roy Celis helped Pua to the dish with an RBI base smash.

Brewers’ Vince Cepeda was very efficient on the mound and nabbed four 1-2-3 innings from the hump until Fielders’ John Reyes finally broke the ice for his squad in the fifth frame.

Fielders’ Elton Santos came to the mound for Brandon Santos in the fourth inning and got into a little trouble, but escaped with the bases loaded.

The Brewers kept chomping at the bit, however and managed to move ahead, 4-1, in the sixth inning off four hits, including an RBI single by Tin Guerrero.

Brewers’ Celis led off the seventh with a double and was brought in by Byron Kaipat, while their hurler Cepeda held strong for a sweet one-hit complete game performance.

Cepeda struck out 13 and allowed zero earned runs with just three walks.

Brewers’ Celis batted 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Ol’Aces 9, Angels 4

The Ol’Aces took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off of a pair of errors, but Angels’ Barry Maratita led off with a hit in the third and made it all the way around to pull his team within a run.

The Ol’Aces then chalked up three runs in the fifth inning off four hits. Mike Iguel drove in Jesus Iguel and Nokki Saralu, while J.D. Dikito brought home Ben Taisacan with a base rip.

Angels’ Nunu Kapileo started off the sixth inning with a double and made it all the way home that brought the count to 2-5, but the Ol’Aces responded with four more runs in the bottom frame off another three hits, including a two-RBI single by Saralu.

The Ol’Aces went on to hold the Angels to just two runs in the final stand.

Winning pitcher Juan Iguel struck out four and gave up zero earned runs and six hits with three walks and a hit batsman.

Ol’Aces’ Saralu batted 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs.
