Napu paddlers hold ground vs SPC

Napu Outrigger Canoe Club paddlers matched Saipan Paddling Club’s twin wins in the second and final leg of the All CNMI Juniors Outrigger Regatta 2016 held last Saturdayat Kilili Beach.
Napu swept the boys 500m and 1,000m final races, while SPC prevailed in the girls division, faltering in its bid to dominate the weekend tournament. In the first leg, SPC topped three out of the four events.
In the boys 500m finals, Napu clocked in at 2:58.63 to beat the 3:04.21 of SPC. Hoe Lokahi-Grace Christian Academy completed the field and timed in at 3:04:21. Napu managed to pull off the win in the finals after coming in at second in the semis and preliminaries with times of 2:58.17 and 2:54.83, respectively. SPC logged 2:56.88 in the finals and 2:48.93 in the first race. Hoe Lokahi-GCA posted 3:06.92 in the preliminaries and had a faster time in the semis (3:00.11).
In the girls division, SPC was way ahead of its rivals after recording 3:18.58. Hoe Lokahi-GCA jumped to second despite a slower time (3:58.58) than Napu (3:22.39) after the latter was disqualified. Napu won the preliminary with its 3:08.98 against the 3:20.97 and 3:44.73 of SPC and Hoe Lokahi-GCA, respectively, while SPC prevailed in the semis after clocking in at 3:17.92. Hoe Lokahi was second in the semis with its 3:28.28, while Napu was last after submitting 3:31.29.
In the boys 1,000m finale, Napu was about four seconds ahead of SPC, 6:00.37-6:04.34, while Hoe Lokahi-GCA tallied 6:44.10. SPC had the fastest time in the semis (5:47.80), while Napu and Hoe Lokahi-GCA recorded 6:07.86 and 6:16.52, respectively.
In the girls 1,000 finals, SPC came out on top with its 6:36.90. Napu posted the second best time 6:55.79, but was again disqualified due to a violation, giving Hoe Lokahi-GCA (7:39.36) the runner-up spot. SPC also finished first in the semis, reaching the shore at the 6:21.35 mark, while Napu timed in at 6:57.62, and Hoe Lokahi-GCA clocked in at 7:03.00.
