Lions Clubs under District 204 Region 2 held a joint induction night at Kanoa Resort’s Latte Stone Room last Saturday.

Aside from Lion officers and members on Saipan, among those present in the ceremony were delegates from Guam including district governor Daniel Yang, past district governor Goring Duenas, past district governor Herbie Perez, cabinet secretary Zenaida Cachila, and first vice district governor Linda Tolan.

“The Lion Year I have as a dream is that we could get together again and serve our community harmoniously,” Yang said in his speech.

Also at the induction was Philippine Honorary Consul and lion Glicerio Arago.

“I urge our new officers and to all of us CNMI Lions Club members to sustain the meaningful alliances we have fostered in this community. This is the only way we will see a transformed CNMI community. This is the only way we will bring about our central purpose: to be of service to the community we work and live in,” Arago said in his welcoming remarks.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang was the clubs’ guest of honor.

“I want you to know that my office is open to you and everyone. My office will help you in any way it can so that you could continue accomplishing your tasks in the most sensible way: by working together,” Apatang said.

The induction proper for officers of the two clubs—the Saipan Filipino-Americans Lions Club and the Saipan Marianas Lions Club—was headed by Duenas.

Presidents for this year are Annamae Adaza for SFALC and Olivia Yana for SMLC.

For Adaza, increasing membership in the club is her No. 1 concern.

“Virtually, the only thing of value in the Lions organization from top to bottom is its members. They are the only real asset that this organization has,” Adaza said.

Yana said she wants to encourage more people to be more of service.

“For me, there is no such thing as small people when it comes to service,” Yana said. “On my term, I wish to tap those people, to bring more leaders amongst those who have not been a part of any organization before but wishes to share a part of themselves, to being of more service volunteers to Lions Clubs.”

Other SFALC officers are Reynado Joson as first vice president, Ariel Terrado as second vice president, Mario Mayuga as secretary, Arceli Lizama as treasurer, Rizally DL Joson as assistant treasurer, Sonia Laserna as tail twister, Federico Ortiz as lion tamer, Arturo Anchita as safety officer, Arago as membership director, and Anastacia Japson, Vilma Embotorio, Reynaldo Ortiz and Aurelia Rodriguez as directors.

The new SMLC officers are Lolita Velasco as first vice president, Guillermo Canape Jr. as second vice president, Ladyvir DLC Canape as secretary, Ellen Delos Santos as assistant secretary, Florenda Miranda as treasurer, Leticia Canching as assistant treasurer, Domingo Dones as auditor, Evangeline Galvez as public relations officer, Remegio Cabulit as lion tamer/custodian, Teresita Tan as lion tail twister, Nelida Atalig as membership chair, Lorna Baro as assistant membership chair, and Alma Famat, Lolita Albarico, Linda Alomia, and Emil Garra as directors.

Regional officers were also inducted that night. As members of the cabinet, Yana was inducted as district assistant secretary, Miranda as district assistant treasurer, Adaza as district asstant PRO, and Canape Jr. as assistant district safety officer.

Ladyvir Canape and Mario Mayuga were sworn in as region chair and zone chair respectively.

Four new members were inducted for SFALC: Heida Elijay, Jasminda Domingo, Leonila Mendoza, and Cherry Casila.

For SMLC, six pledged their membership: Marilou Paet, Larcy Chariton, Adoracion DLC Torres, Elizabeth Ramos, Delia Johnson, and Markyn Dougherty.
