NMC eyes early Dec. opening
Extended spring 2019 scholarship deadlines
The Northern Marianas College now has a target date for the resumption of classes at its As Terlaje campus—Dec. 3, 2018. But that’s for afternoon and evening classes only. There is no word yet on when NMC’s morning classes will resume.
NMC announced over the weekend its intention to resume classes in early December in its social media page.
Super Yutu destroyed several NMC buildings.
NMC noted that while construction at the As Terlaje campus continues, the college is looking at temporary, alternate sites on Saipan to continue classes.
“More detailed announcements in regards to the resumption of fall 2018 class schedule and an adjusted spring 2019 class schedule will be available within the next few days,” the college said.
It urged students and the public to continue to keep an eye out on their website and social media pages.
NMC also coordinated with the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program and the CNMI Scholarship Office to extend the spring 2019 deadlines from the previous Dec. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2018. All supporting documents, however, are due by Feb. 28, 2019.
The college would also be hosting “information sessions” to provide updates in person on Nov. 23, 2018 at the American Memorial Park Theater. The sessions would be held between two sessions, one from 9am to 10am and another at 3pm to 4pm.
While the college noted that attendance is not required, the information sessions provide students with an opportunity to receive further updates and ask questions.
The college’s landlines are all down, so in order to contact the college, you may call 285-7651 or 285-2059.
NMC offices open starting today, from 9am to 4pm. NMC noted that students are required to park behind Building P since other parking spaces on campus remain off limits to students while some programs and services are temporarily relocated due to damage.
In a separate statement that the CNMI Public School System earlier released, it said that the target opening date for schools on Saipan is Dec. 3, 2018. It also said that all schools on Tinian will be open and ready to receive students on Nov. 26, 2018.
