No Rota power outages, ports reopen

As Tropical Storm Chan-Hom passed through the CNMI, there were no power outages on Rota and only brief outages in Garapan, CUC acting executive director John Riegel told Saipan Tribune.

Riegel said the CNMI did well during the storm.

As for the outages, Riegel said they came back within an hour.

Meanwhile, the CNMI ports have since reopened after they were closed for hazardous conditions due to the storm.

Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Maryann Lizama confirmed this yesterday.

U.S. Coast Guard Captain J.B. Pruett reset the port condition and opened all commercial and cargo operations on Sunday at 2pm.

An all-clear condition for Rota was given yesterday morning as Tropical Storm Chan-Hom has moved away from the CNMI after its erratic movements during the weekend.

All warnings and conditions were lowered for Saipan and Tinian as early as Sunday afternoon.

Chan-Hom was expected to turn toward the northwest and head away from the CNMI.

There were no reports of damage, casualties, or even power and water outages because of the storm.
