The Oleai Sports Complex’s track and field oval and the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field are closed to the public to give way to the repair work at the facilities.
Contractors for the project have started mobilizing equipment and clearing the area last Friday so for everyone’s safety, the public is not allowed to utilize the oval and the “Tan Ko” baseball field until further notice. Individuals and teams that are using other facilities located at the sports complex are also asked to exercise extra caution as construction and repair works at the OSC are underway.
“We are asking the public’s cooperation on this closure announcement, as we work on getting our facilities ready for our athletes and officials as well as visiting teams participating in the 2022 Pacific Mini Games,” the Northern Marianas Sports Association said in a press statement.
The NMI will be hosting the Mini Games from June 17 to 25 and the event will feature competitions in nine sports: athletics, beach volleyball, badminton, baseball, golf, triathlon, tennis, weightlifting, and va’a.
The track facility will host the athletics competition as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, while badminton will be staged at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium and baseball will take place at the “Tan Ko” field. Beach volleyball is slated at Crowne Plaza’s sand courts and Jones Beach on Tinian (consolation matches), while weightlifting and va’a will be hosted at Marianas High School and the waters off the 13 Fishermen Monument in Beach Road, respectively. Triathlon will be held on Rota, while Coral Ocean Resort will host the golf competition. (PR)
