OPA cites DOC chief Castro for alleged misuse of govt vehicle
The Office of the Public Auditor allegedly caught Department of Corrections director Gregory Castro using a Corrections vehicle to go to the Marianas Country Club last week and play golf.
OPA impounded the unmarked vehicle and cited Castro for misuse of a government vehicle, according to multiple sources at OPA and the Department of Public Safety.
Saipan Tribune contacted Castro and acting Corrections commissioner Lino Tenorio yesterday for comments, but they had yet to reply as of press time.
Sources said that during OPA’s surveillance, they saw Castro on a Corrections vehicle issued to him driving toward the Marianas Country Club, where he played golf last week, Wednesday, in the morning office hours.
Sources said the surveillance was initiated after Castro was allegedly seen using the car whenever he played golf at the same golf course.
The case, however, is traffic and not a criminal matter, sources said.
Castro’s court appearance will be in the last part of May, sources added.
One down, hundreds to go…
come to BOG Drive-Up window, too many govt vehicles to count!
What was Lino Tenorio’s comment about following procedure and “fixing” things that were broken under prior commissioners, again?
Great work OPA! I’m glad that DPS and OPA has been enforcing the law and/or regulations regarding government employees using govt car for personal use on Saipan. This is also prevalent in Rota and Tinian but I don’t think DPS or OPA is as strict as they are here.
I am sure there are few out there that drives their government issued vehicles to do personal errands during working hours.
ALL of these clowns (and elected) should be required to “clock in” using a fingerprint scanner. They cost less than $100 in the Phil.
So what did this guy do call DOC and have someone pick him up with another corrections vehicle? Too funny.
OPA still exists?
