Parents invited to Summer Academy info session on Friday
Parents of high school seniors and juniors are invited to participate in an information session on Friday, April 11, 2014, to learn about the Summer Academy organized by College Access Challenge Grant Program at the Northern Marianas College.
The Summer Academy affords high school students an opportunity to gain meaningful college experience while they are earning transferable college credits. The academy familiarizes students with college life while they are still in high school and can be an excellent way to help students prepare for their eventual transition to college after graduation.
In addition to college level work, participants of the Summer Academy will also receive college advising, academic tutoring, and college-preparatory and life skills training.
The program is fully funded by the College Access Challenge Grant, which aims to increase the number of underserved and minority students who are enrolling in College. To do this, the CACG provides a scholarship award of $1,000 to eligible students to cover the cost of their courses.
The info session for parents will be held on April 11, 2014, from 5pm to 8pm at Room D1 (across NMC Bookstore) at NMC’s As Terlaje Campus. Parents of high school seniors and juniors are strongly encouraged to participate and to meet with representatives of the CACG program to learn more about the Summer Academy.
The agenda for the sessions will include a discussion of the Summer Academy Experience, the early admissions process, financial aid opportunities, and other important topics.
The Summer Academy for students will run from June 30, 2014, through Aug. 8, 2014. Although classes for the Summer Academy will be held at NMC’s As Terlaje campus, some activities will be located off-campus and will be announced in advance. Eligibility for participation in the Summer Academy is based on family income and the ability to meet NMC admissions and financial aid requirements.
Parents of high school seniors who plan on attending the info session on Friday should bring their most recent tax documents (1040). Representatives from the Financial Aid Office will be on hand to assist with the FAFSA.
