Pohnpei revives Soil and Water Conservation District Board
HONOLULU—The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service extends to each new director congratulations with their recent appointment to the Pohnpei Soil and Water Conservation District Board.
On behalf of the NRCS Pacific Islands Area Director and all leadership staff, thank you for your willingness to serve in the capacity of SWCD director. New board directors are Adelino Lorens, Alden Salvador, Wendolin Roseo Marquez, Mayoriko Victor, Mark Kostka, Francisca Sohl Obispo, and Marlyter Silbanuz.
“It was an honor and a pleasure to meet with the newly-appointed SWCD board and begin the very important discussions of how the board can work with farmers in Pohnpei addressing soil and water conservation on the islands,” said Christine Clarke, acting director for the NRCS Pacific Islands Area.

The role of Conservation Districts is an important one. With the reactivation of the Pohnpei SWCD, each director will be the local voice of Pohnpei landowners in helping to guide NRCS technical assistance to address the important issues of promoting soil and water conservation by preventing erosion and improving the use of Pohnpei’s land and water resources.
Directors were selected by Pohnpei State Gov. John Ehsa and the Legislature because of their high level of skill, professionalism, and commitment to improving the quality of the environment on Pohnpei. The directors hold a three-year term, and the NRCS staff looks forward to working with the new board. The Pohnpei SWCD joins a large network of SWCDs throughout the Pacific Islands Area to partners with NRCS on conservation efforts.
