Propst gives $1K worth of dog food, supplies to dog pound
Rep. Ed Propst (Ind-Saipan) recently extended a helping hand to Saipan Mayor’s Office animal shelter with a $1,000 worth donation of dog food and other supplies.
According to Propst, he recently talked with Dog Control Program manager Spencer Marchadesch about the needs of the animal shelter and that feeding the dogs was a primary concern to ensure they are healthy and readily adoptable.
“They have been doing an adoption program for the dogs at the shelter so we purchased the food,” Propst said. “The dogs in the shelter need love and affection, but their most basic needs must also be met. If we can get the dogs at the shelter to a healthy weight, the more adoptable they become.”
“I want to thank Marchadesch and his team, [Saipan Cares for Animals volunteer Jason] Hudy and his team of volunteers for their tireless efforts in caring for neglected animals and for trying to find each and every one of them a loving home,” Propst said.
“There are those who believe I should forget about animals because we must focus on our people. No doubt that I will always put our people first, but why can’t we do both? Why can’t we help our people and help our animals as well? We are a loving community, and you can tell a lot about us as a people by how we treat each other, and also how we treat our animals,” he said.
Propst noted that he will also be donating funding to charitable organizations such as Empty Vessel, Karidat, and CNMI Salvation Army to purchase food and products they would be distributing to the community.
“We will be utilizing the funds that we have not just for Precinct 1 but the community and some of it will go to children as well as the non-profit organizations whose mission is to feed people and distribute the needed items to the community,” Propst said.
Saipan Mayor’s Office special assistant Henry Hofschneider noted that, on behalf of Mayor David M. Apatang’s office, they were thankful for Propst’s donation of dog food.
Propst used discretionary fund. Therefore, it was not a donation!
Buenas Sharky Sablan,
How do you define discretionary fund? We don’t think his salary qualifies as a discretionary fund and his donation genuine. Honorable Propst is the most trusted individual at our legislature and him using his discretionary fund is unlikely.
Si Yu’us Ma’ase
Hahahaha…..you don’t know Propst and lawmakers, in general. He’s like a fox….very slick. If you don’t believe me, request for his expenditure record of the fund. I’m sure there is a $1,000 expense under the name of something else.
Buenas Sharky Sablan,
You would be surprise how much we know about the lawmakers in general in the CNMI. Our organization’s bylaws and missions are to learned, understand and communicate with the elected officials from our senatorial district. We don’t know Honorable Propst, but we foresee him of being at the CNMI Legislature for the long haul and we would give him the benefit of the doubt/
Si Yu’us Ma’ase
He will definitely be a one-term legislator just like Tina Sablan.
Buenas Sharky Sablan,
Nope.
He is with the minority block at this point in time, but he is a team player and if you can get numbers at our legislature would equates to things happening. We are predicting that honorable Propst would be one of the leaderships at the CNMI Legislature in the future. We had seen individuals come and go, Propst is here to stay for a long period of time. We were skeptical about him at first, but we have a gut feeling that he would deliver for our people.
Si Yu’us Ma’ase
Yeah, right. He hasn’t done anything other than picking up trash where there are people.
Now, how does it feel commenting for yourself Ed? Pathetic!
I guess our hypocritical congressman whose office is in Facebook is getting ready for the second term.
In the midst of a crises and he donates food to dogs, seriously. Instead of assisting the needy & the poor during a rough typhoon season. Hello, what are thinking of one-term Congressman?
