Public warned of high surf today
Combined seas of 6 to 8 feet will rise to 8 to 10 feet by tonight, Nov. 4, 2014, as a long period west swell arrives from distant Super Typhoon Nuri, according to the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Meanwhile, a weak tropical disturbance will generate numerous showers over Tinian and Saipan waters and scattered showers over Guam and Rota waters.
A high surf advisory is now in effect from 6am Tuesday to 6pm Thursday along west facing reefs. Surf will become hazardous at 7 to 9 feet along west facing reefs this morning, rising to 9 to 11 feet by Wednesday.
By Wednesday morning surf will likely become hazardous at 7 to 9 feet along north facing reefs.
The public is advised to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along north facing reefs as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
