Public warned of dangerous rip currents along east-facing reefs
A high rip current risk remains in effect through 6pm today, Monday.
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, there will be dangerous and frequent rip currents along east facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The high risk of rip currents could extend to north facing reefs. Inexperienced swimmers should not enter the water. Experienced swimmers should swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
The public is advised to avoid venturing out along east facing reefs and beaches. Strong rip currents will be life threatening. (PR)
