Register for NMC’s intersession semester
The Northern Marianas College has announced that it will be offering academic courses during a new Intersession semester, where courses will meet for approximately three weeks from Dec. 5-29, 2011.
This new semester or “intersession” was created to help students achieve their educational goals; it is ideal for those who need one or two courses to graduate or for those who want to lighten their academic load during upcoming semesters.
In addition, the college will be accepting applications from new students for the Intersession. To learn more about deadlines and requirements for new students, including information on financial aid, contact Romeo Cuellar at 234-5498 ext. 1345, email romeoc@nmcnet.edu, or visit the Counseling and Career Center (Building I) for more information.
The college offers several degree and certificate programs, including bachelor of science degrees in education (emphasis on elementary education, special education, early childhood education, or rehabilitation and human services), associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management. Moreover, it offers short-term certificate programs in different vocational, academic, and professional areas.
Registration for the intersession semester is on Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, from 8am to 5pm.
Those who wish to take courses at NMC must take the placement tests. For the upcoming English placement test, there is a $25 fee that must be paid in advance at the NMC Cashier (Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4pm). No one will be allowed into the testing room without proof of payment (a receipt for the placement test fee, or the NMC application fee). Payment for the application fee will cover the English placement test fee. If you have a placement test fee waiver, students must obtain a placement test slip from the Office of Admissions and Records prior to taking the test.
Test takers must also bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport or school ID) and pencils. No admittance to the testing room will be allowed after the starting time.
Those who wish to take the English placement test are strongly encouraged to contact the Language and Humanities Department to schedule an appointment. “Walk-in” test takers will be accommodated based on seat availability. The average time to complete the English placement test is between 1.5 and 2.5 hours.
To schedule an appointment to take the English placement test or for more information, contact Jim Kline at 234-5498 Ext. 2017, Tom Colton at 234-5498 Ext. 2009, or Elsie Skang-Ngewakl at Ext. 2014.
