The Rotary Club of Saipan last Wednesday donated $5,000 to the Northern Mariana Technical Institute that was used to purchase two welding equipment, a plasma cutter, and two welding tables.

“This is very important for the students [since], instead of sending them off-island to learn, they are able to do it here. We always want to try and help because it is important to keep them here due to the cost and financial support going off-island to learn,” said Rotary Club president Maria Ayuyu. “We are very happy that we are able to donate for the students. I want to thank you for what you do and when you are working, please always be safe. Safety first.”

NMTI chief executive officer Agnes McPhetres said that NMTI students will surely look forward to using the new equipment. “I know students will be smiling to be working with new equipment on hand,” she added.

NMITI student Kaito Ynai said the Rotary Club donation means that they will be able “to do more projects in the future and to enhance our skills.”

As Ayuyu’s term will be ending this month as club president, she assures “that upcoming president Sonya Dancoe will continue and maintain their relationship with the trade school and any other activities within the community.” (Chevy Alipio)
