Routs highlight Day 2 of MISO boys caging

SSHS’ varsity squad used a balanced scoring en route to a 68-54 decision against Mt. Carmel School, MHS JV cruised to a 52-33 victory againts SSHS 9, while SIS leaned on a second-half scoring splurge in posting a 48-23 win over Marianas Baptist Academy.
Southern and MCS played in the last game and went scoreless for almost two minutes before Jerwin Roquero’s split free throws broke the ice and put the Manta Rays on the board.
The opposing teams continued to experience opening game jitters with the Knights still without a point midway in the match and the score at 1-0. A Jethro Cruz 3-pointer made it 4-0, 4:29 left in the first quarter.
William Camacho’s running jumper ended MCS’ scoring drought with 4:04 to go in the opening period. The quarter wrapped up with SSHS slightly ahead, 9-6.
The Mantas started pulling away in the second quarter with the Knights’ errors and miserable shooting on the floor helping their cause.
Saipan Southern just played tough defense the entire match and had an answer in every MCS comeback attempt.
Emerson Feria led the Mantas with 13 points, while James Kintaro and Tyler Palacios added 12 and 10 markers, respectively. Roquero, Chico Bondoc, Joseph Taitano and Edilberto Javier combined for 25 more.
Markel Toves tallied 15 for the Knights with Camacho and Zander Tekel contributing 10 apiece.
In the first game, MHS held SSHS 9 to a season-low 3 points in the first quarter and was never threatened after that.
Warren Ellama led MHS JV with 14 points, while Dalton Dancoe chipped in 11 for the Dolphins, who even enjoyed a 24-point spread entering the final canto.
N-Nes Siech was the lone SSHS 9 to earn double digits with 14. Only five of his teammates managed to score in the entire game.
The SIS Geckos, meanwhile, banked on Jehn Joyner’s game-high 21 markers in waltzing past the MBA Stormz.
Hwang Ho Kim, and brothers Christopher and Allen Cepeda combined for 20 points to provide scoring support to Joyner.
Ki Boon Song tallied 9, Julian Manglona had 6, while Young Jin Jung and Harim Kim ended up with 4 apiece for MBA.
