SGA Ace of Aces cast almost complete
DELEON GUERRERO
The Saipan Golfers Association is close to filling up the 12 slots for its Ace of Aces club championship after Tony Deleon Guerrero secured the penultimate berth last Sunday.
Deleon Guerrero matched the best net score in the November Ace tournament after shooting a 71 on the west course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. The 16-handicapper tallied a 42 on the front nine and player better on the back with his 38 for a gross 87, tying Das Krishnan for first place in last weekend’s competition.
Krishnan, who sports a 13 handicap, had a gross 84 built around his 41 and 43 on the front and back nines, respectively. Krishnan went on to beat Deleon Guerrero in the tiebreak for first place, but since the former had already won the May Ace title, the latter was awarded the November plum.
Deleon Guerrero and Krishnan will be vying for the Ace of Aces top honors against defending club champion and Attorney General Edward Manibusan (January Ace winner), Jung Eun Teack (February), Nick Sablan (March), Juan “Pan” Guerrero (April), Larry Deleon Guerrero (June), Steve Balakrishna (July), Ed Sablan (August), John “Nanni” Cruz (September), Alex Tudela (October), and the December Ace winner, which will be determined this Sunday when SGA plays at the Kingfisher Golf Links. The December Ace competition will start at 9am, while tee off is at 8:30am.
Meanwhile, Teack joined Krishnan and Tony Deleon Guerrero in the Top 3 of last weekend’s event.
The February Ace was three strokes behind the leaders after delivering a net 74. The 14-handicapper Teack carded a 49 in the first nine holes and finished strong with his 39 in the last nine.
In the closest to the pin contest, Frances Sablan won on the par-3, No. 174-yard No. 3, while Krishnan and Rick Kautz prevailed on the 148-yard No. 13 and 137-yard No. 17, respectively.
For the longest drive competition, Rene Batallones delivered on the par-5, 477-yard No. 2, while Juan “Pan” Guerrero triumphed in another par-5 hole—the 461-yard No. 18.
