SHEFA awards over $900K in scholarships
The Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program has awarded over $900,000 worth of college scholarship funds for the current fall semester.
As of last week, SHEFA awarded funds to its 11th batch of scholars.
The SHEFA program received a total of 892 applications since the beginning of the fall semester in August.
As of yesterday, 48 individuals have been denied assistance, 570 have been approved, and 274 remain pending because of incomplete documents.
The total amount distributed by the SHEFA program amounted to $945,700 as of yesterday.
Its scholars consist of 306 off-island students and 586 on-island students. A total of 327 students are new applicants, 522 are ongoing applicants, and 43 students are returning applicants.
Students under the SHEFA program are either pursuing an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or an advanced degree.
Some 419 students are pursuing associate degrees, 420 are pursuing bachelor’s degrees, 41 are pursuing master’s degrees, and 12 are pursuing doctoral degrees.
The deadline to submit all supporting documents to the SHEFA office is on Oct. 2, 2017. Failure to submit by the deadline will result in a denied application.
The first batch consisted of 177 recipients, the second consisted of 41 recipients, batch three consisted of 71 recipients, the fourth consisted 57 recipients, batch five consisted of 31 recipients, batch six consisted of 40 recipients, the seventh consisted of 17 recipients, batch eight consisted of 55 recipients, the ninth batch consisted of 50 recipients, the 10th consisted of 116 recipients, and batch 11 consisted of 15 recipients.
