Silver Explorer to visit Pagan

The Silver Explorer expedition cruise ship is scheduled to visit Pagan on Sep. 28 as well as Saipan and Tinian the next day as part of the concluding Marianas leg of a tour that included visits to various Japanese volcanic islands.

According to Silver Explorer, visitors will explore one of the Pagan’s lava flows after heading down a World War II-era Japanese runway featuring abandoned bunkers and stranded warplanes.

They will also hike up one of the island’s ridges to view two of its scenic lakes.

Jerome Aldan of Northern Island’s Mayor’s Office said the tour will be a “historic visit” to Pagan.

According to him, 150 tourists are expected to visit the island.

He said that next year, along with partners such Pacific Development, Inc., Inchcape Shipping, and Marianas Visitor’s Authority, they are planning to have as many as four cruise visits to the island next year.

“This is just the beginning,” he said.
