Saipan International School played host last month to 18 students from South Korea, who came here to take part in an ESL (English as a Second Language) Camp at SIS.
The Korean students, from grades 2 to 9, improved their English language skills, learned new games like kickball, sang and danced in English, and much more.
They also learned about the beauty of the CNMI with field trips to the beach, and interactive presentation by Mallory Muña and Jihan Buniag from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.
The students also visited historical and geographical sites on Saipan and had a great day at the Koconut-ville farm where they made mwars, cooked coconut candy, sampled fruits, and got to see some animals.
In the evening, the students worked with their teachers from Korea and local children to develop a musical performance of Snow White and the Three Little Pigs. This performance was the culminating activity of the trip and took place in the new ESL suite at SIS. In attendance were members of the Saipan and SIS community.
The evening saw many laughs and good times and finished with a special certificate presented to the students by Sid Seman, director of the Office of Personnel Management.
“Thanks to Mr. Ron and all the support from SIS so that we could experience lots of thing [on] Saipan. Things were so nice and this was a precious moment for me,” said the group’s lead teacher, Jinny Cha of U.S. Pacific Ltd.
The group hopes to expand their tour offerings in the future, bringing in many children to experience the truly special place that is Saipan and the CNMI.
