Small craft advisory in effect
Fresh to strong trade winds and combined seas building to 9 to 11 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft through Wednesday, according to the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, citing data from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam.
The northern fringe of Typhoon Maysak will generate scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through Tuesday night.
A small craft advisory is now in effect until 6am Wednesday.
East to northeast winds at 20 to 25 knots and combined seas of 10 and 12 feet are expected through Tuesday. Winds will diminish starting Tuesday afternoon but seas are not expected to subside below 10 feet until Wednesday.
The public is being urged to avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots are expected to produce wave conditions hazardous to small craft. (HSEM)
