Small craft, high surf advisories cancelled
The small craft and high surf advisories in the CNMI have been cancelled after trade-wind swell have decreased just enough such that surf has fallen below hazardous levels, according to information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center.
Regional buoys show that combined seas have decreased to between 6 and 9 feet. Satellite-derived sea heights also show seas to be below 10 feet
Regional buoy data also show that east swell has decreased to between 6 and 8 feet. Surf observations indicate surf along east facing shores between 6 and 9 feet, which are below hazardous levels. East swell is expected to decrease another foot over the weekend.
Acting governor Francisco M. Borja, however, is still advising the general public and mariners to continue exercising caution as seas and winds will be close to hazardous levels for the next few days.
