Tanapag rallies past SIS

Tanapag Middle School outlasted Saipan International School in an extended game in the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Girls Middle School Volleyball League last Wednesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Tanapag-SIS duel was contested in three sets with the Geckos taking the first set, 21-12, to inch closer to victory. However, Tanapag fought back and eked out a 22-20 victory in the second set to force a deciding third. In the final set, Tanapag and SIS went back and forth and neither team seemed willing to give in until the former delivered in the homestretch and escaped with a 16-14 triumph to complete the come-from-behind win.
Meanwhile, Hopwood Middle School 1, Agape Christian School, Mount Carmel School 1 Dandan Middle School 2, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, and Chacha Oceanview Middle School 1 also played last Wednesday on the north court, while Hopwood 2 Grace Christian Academy, and Mt. Carmel 2 and Dandan 1 saw action on the south end.
Hopwood 1 needed only two sets to beat Agape, taking the first one by 6 points, 21-15, before posting an easier victory in the second, 21-9. Mt. Carmel 1 also prevailed in straight sets against Dandan 2 after recording a 21-15 win in the first and pulling off a 23-21 triumph in the second. For the fourth game on the north court, FMS earned a sweep, too after dominating Chacha 1, 21-5, 21-12.
On the south court, GCA came out on top in two sets, cruising past Hopwood 2 in the first, 21-10, and finishing off the Hilitais with a 21-15 win in the second. Dandan 1 duplicated the Eagles’ sweep after topping Mt. Carmel 2, 21-12, 21-10.
The round-robin matches in the middle school league will continue today with Hopwood 1 battling Mt. Carmel 1, Hopwood 3 facing FMS, and Chacha 1 challenging Agape on the north court. On the south court, it will be SIS against DMS 1, Chacha 2 versus Tanapag, and Hopwood 2 over Mt. Carmel 2.
