Police arrested on Tuesday in As Lito a 19-year-old male who allegedly engaged in sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend twice in the Garapan area.

Ashiqur Rahaman, 19, also known as Simon Kosam, was arrested for sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, and assault and battery.

At a bail hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $25,000 cash bail

Chief public defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as counsel for Rahaman. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

Police Detective Myron O. Laniyo stated in his report that Rahaman allegedly had sex with the girl on two occasions—on a bench at the American Memorial Park and in the grassy area near 13 Fishermen Monument.

Laniyo said the investigation began when a then-off duty police officer called the Department of Public Safety last March 7 to report about a sexual abuse of a minor case.

Laniyo said that the following day, the girl was accompanied by her mother and sister to DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau where she was interviewed.

The girl told police that the first incident happened last Feb. 26 and the second occurred last March 4.

Laniyo said last March 17 they interviewed Rahaman, who admitted that he engaged in sexual penetration with his girlfriend on two occasions.
