Three loads of asphalt to plug potholes in Kagman

Three loads of recycled asphalt were delivered yesterday morning to Kagman III’s main secondary roads to cover up potholes, according to Rep. Larry Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan).

He said the recycled asphalt will cover large potholes on Chopak Drive, Tuten Drive, and Pine Drive.

“This will be temporary to cover the holes that damage the cars that pass by and help the community while we try and move forward with the Kagman road project,” Deleon Guerrero said.

He said the Saipan Mayor’s Office asked Hawaiian Rock for the recycled asphalt and the request was fortunately granted.

Deleon Guerrero said that a grader will be arriving today, Aug. 15, in Kagman to plug the potholes.

Rep. Antonio R. Agulto (Ind-Saipan) is also urging the Department of Public Works to move ahead with the project to pave Kagman roads.

In an Aug. 5 letter to DPW Secretary Martin C. Sablan, Agulto said: “On numerous occasions, the good people of Precinct 5 have vocally aired their concerns regarding the poor conditions of several secondary roads in Kagman.”

“They continue to be extremely patient as they continuously deal with unsafe and hazardous roads that affect the safety and welfare of the entire community,” he added.

This came after Deleon Guerrero disclosed that they met with the Commonwealth Development Authority, Office of Management and Budget, and DPW in expediting the process.

Agulto wants the progress to quicken to ensure safety for Kagman residents.

In an earlier interview, Deleon Guerrero said that an invitation to bid is out for the project to move forward.

  1. “Agulto wants the progress to quicken to ensure safety for Kagman residents.”

The Honorable CNMI Representative Agulto and Deleon Guerrero.

I was at Kagman II for over three months and what I saw was freaky. Each week day, before and after school, Cha Cha Road leading down to Marine Beach, the PSS school bus would make their routes picking and dropping students. The coral road leading down to Marine Beach was at times was impassable and on several occasions there were miscalls or near accidents.

If you are reading this comment, please go see it for yourself, because one of these days something will go terrible wrong due to the road condition or mechanical malfunction of the bus or a tour SUV excessive speed and our students will suffer the consequences for our society’s negligence.

I am in no position to tell anyone what to do, but at least I am addressing an issue relating to your constituents’ safety.

    Si Yu’us Ma’ase
