The Inaugural Foam & Fun 5K on Saipan that was organized by Triple J benefitted two non-profit organizations: the Commonwealth Cancer Association and to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, with each getting $10,000.

Last Friday, at the Surf Club Saipan, Triple J officials presented $10,000 to the Commonwealth Cancer Association and another $10,000 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

CCA executive director Juan Babauta said the donation is a huge help because the organization needs all the money it can get to provide for cancer patients who have returned from treatment.

“One of our programs that is really in need is direct services to our clients who are returning from treatment,” said Babauta.

CCA provides medical equipment to these individuals, nutritional supplements, as well as support for cancer patients.

Some of the money the CCA received will also help the Commonwealth Health Center in upgrading its current mammographic equipment.

“It will add accuracy and clear imaging in the process of early screening and early diagnosis of breast cancer,” said Babauta.

CCA board secretary Bobbi Grizzard said the association is grateful that Triple J recognizes the importance of supporting their mission.

The other beneficiary was the local Make-A-Wish Foundation, which focuses on granting wishes for children who face life-threatening conditions.

According to Make-A-Wish Foundation board member Kanae Quinn, the foundation is currently in the middle of granting a wish.

“We have one wish kid coming up soon and her wish is to either go to the Philippines and visit her great grandparents or to go to Disneyland,” said Quinn.

She said the donation would go to funding the child’s transportation, hotel, and other expenses.

According to Make-A-Wish Foundation board member Eleanor Cabrera, it came as a surprise that the group was chosen to benefit from the Foam & Fun 5K.
