MP United Football Club won two of its three make-up games in Division B of the 2017 Dove Women’s Spring League last week.
MP United first dueled Shirley’s FC last April 26 at the Francisco Mendiola Sablan Middle School Field and pulled off a 1-0 victory. Then last Sunday, MP United shut down Kagman High School, 3-0, at the Chacha Oceanview Middle School Field. MP United and Kagman collided twice last weekend with their first encounter ending in a scoreless draw.
Julia Ishikawa scored the lone goal for MP United in their close win against Shirley’s. She hit the board in the 50th minute to break MP United’s long silence and snap Shirley’s six-game winning streak.
Versus Kagman, Maaya Sato recorded the pair of goals for MP United, while Malika Miyawaki added one. Sato made her first goal in the 15th minute and the second in the 38th or a minute after Miyawaki found the back of the net and gave MP United a 2-0 advantage.
With its back-to-back victories, MP United improved to a 4-3-1 win-draw-loss record and moved up to second place in the team standings in Division B behind Shirley’s (6-0-1).
In other results in Division B, Paire and Kanoa had a scoreless draw.
With the standoff, both Paire and Kanoa remain winless this season with the former holding a 0-4-3 record for fourth place in the team standings and the latter at the cellar with its 0-2-6 slate. Kagman is in third place with its 3-1-3 mark.
In the masters division, all three matches were completed with Kanoa battling MP United-1 in the first game, TanHoldings challenging Topnotch in the second, and Matansa squaring off against MP United-2 in the last tiff.
Meanwhile, the two matches in Division A last Sunday were rescheduled. Kanoa was supposed to meet Shirley’s in the first game, while Paire was slated to face MP United-TanHoldings in the last match.
Paire leads the division with its 6-1-0 and is likely to take the spring championship as it is ahead by three wins against MP United-Tan Holdings (3-1-1) with two games left in the three round-robin competition. Kanoa is at close third behind MP United-Tan Holdings as the former holds a 3-0-3 record. Shirley’s is at the bottom of the team standings with its 0-2-6 card.
