The United Filipino Organization has endorsed the only 2012 Liberation Queen candidate who has Filipino roots.
Maria Angelica Malasarte of Susupe village is one of the five young ladies vying for the crown for the money-based pageant which highlights the biggest community event this year.
The Liberation Queen candidates were formally introduced to the public in a pinning ceremony held at the Saipan Mayor’s Office on June 8.
Malasarte, 15, is the eldest of four children of Malou and Bong Malasarte, who is the current president of the umbrella organization of some 30 Filipino groups in the CNMI.
The younger Malasarte is an incoming junior at the Saipan Southern High School was crowned the first ever winner for Ms. Pusong Pinoy, UFO’s Valentine beauty pageant, held at the Civic Center Beach Park in Susupe last February 12.
UFO secretary Annamae Adaza confirmed yesterday the group’s backing for Malasarte who exemplifies the qualities of a young Filipino lady.
“Angelica will be representing the Filipino community in the annual Liberation Queen pageant so it’s only fitting that our organization and all Filipinos in the Commonwealth support her,” she told Saipan Tribune.
Adaza said UFO members are working hard to sell Malasarte’s tickets. All Liberation Queen hopefuls were initially given 100 booklets to sell, followed by another 100 booklets just last week. The candidate with the most number of tickets sold will be hailed winner. Tickets cost $1 each or $5 per booklet containing six tickets.
“While we’re selling tickets to Filipinos in general, we also have plans to approach Filipino-owned companies on island and other well-to-do Filipinos for their assistance. Let us do what we can to support Angelica in her quest for the Liberation Queen crown,” said Adaza.
Adaza noted that some UFO members will have the tickets for sale after the Filipino mass at the Mount Carmel Cathedral on Sunday.
The counting of tickets sold by all candidates will be done on June 30, with the coronation night to be held at the Liberation Festival grounds at the Garapan Fishing Base on July 2 at 7pm.
