USO-style Camp Show marks 70th anniversary of invasion of Saipan

Shortly before the United States entered World War II, a group of civic mind organizations identified a need for entertainment venues for soldiers, and so the United Service Organization was founded. On Oct. 30, 1941, “Camp Shows” were created to entertain troops on U.S. home bases and overseas.

At 1:30pm on June 15 at American Memorial Park Amphitheater, as part of the “670 Reunion of Honor,” Friends of the Arts is presenting a Camp Show-style production. Join us, for an hour of big band and ’40s sounds, with the MHS Chorus and a host of talented performers. Enjoy iconic tunes of Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, the Andrews Sisters, and Judy Garland. Enjoy the homespun comedy of Abbott and Costello. (FOA)
