We Are Groot and Black Panthers won their respective matches in the Avengers Volleyball League last week at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

We Are Groot topped The Revengers in two sets and needed three to outclass Straight Outta Nowhere. Black Panthers, on the other hand, took only two sets to prevail against D’Challengers and Iron Spike.

The We Are Groot-Revengers tiff was played last Oct. 2 with the former posting a 25-20 win in the first set. We Are Groot went on to complete the sweep after a close 25-23 triumph in the second set. Then last Friday, We Are Groot edged Straight Outta Nowhere in the opening set, 26-24, while the latter remained in contention after a 25-17 win in the second set. In the deciding third set, We Are Groot eked out a 15-13 triumph for a 2-0 record last week.

Black Panthers matched We Are Groot’s pair of wins last week. They first defeated the D’Challengers, 25-10, 25-10 and then had another straight set victory over As Guardians, 25-18, 25-23.

In other results, the As Guardians also notched two wins last week after besting the Old Aces and D’Challengers.

The As Guardians nipped the Old Aces in three sets. A 24-14 victory in the first set moved the As Guardians closer to the win, but the Old Aces bounced back in the second with a 25-19 triumph. The As Guardians then regained its bearings and prevailed in the deciding third set, 15-10 victory.

While the As Guardians played an extended game against the Old Aces, the former needed only two to dispatch the D’Challengers, 25-18, 25-23.

After losing to the As Guardians, the Old Aces recovered following a 25-20, 25-21 triumph over The Revengers.

In the Iron Spike-Straight Outta Nowhere duel, the game went to three sets. Iron Spike won the opening set, 25-19, while Straight Outta Nowhere battled back in the second, 25-19. Iron Spike eventually took the victory after prevailing in the third set, 15-10.
