Winter/Spring season winners feted

The Saipan Billiards Association gave out all the major awards for its Tuesday and Thursday leagues’ Winter/Spring 2015 season yesterday at the Charley’s Cabaret of the Pacific Islands Club.

SBA also honored Simeon Kapileo with the Senior Player Award as the veteran cue artist continues to defy age and remains one of the best pool players in both 8-ball leagues.

Kapileo is a member of the Smoke Pub Armatech Hustlers that finished second in the Tuesday League and was part of the Route 33 Alamo Car Rental squad that placed third in the Thursday League.

He is also one of the original players when the SBA started with its leagues 10 years ago.

Rowel Mariano, Jerry Soriano, Senen Pangilinan, Joey Lucido, Robert Sanciangco, and Erwin Gomez were Kapileo’s teammates in the Tuesday League, while he joins Boyet Sequioco, Romand Rodriguez, Manny Mariano, Richard Santos, Ruben Santos, and Ronel Sunga in the Thursday League.

The Rolly Villanueva-captained Jokers IT&E Voyagers ruled the Tuesday League with the help of Mark Butac, Marc Brian Nelvis, Roman Rodriguez, and R.J. Mascarinas.

Ray Matsunaga, Patrick Cepeda, Randy Sablan, John Reyes, Jack Thornsaket, and Massau Tadashi of the Abyss Titans duplicated their feat in the Thursday League.

The Crazy 8—another Abyss-backed squad composed of Rey Pinangay, Rodel Dela Cruz, Victor Formales, Zaldy Quebral, and Warlee Ellama—finished third in the Tuesday League.

The Crazy 8 bounced back in the Budweiser Cup’s Tuesday League, while the Jokers Homeboyz topped the Thursday edition of the season-ending tournament.

George Lizardo with Nolan Cultura, Rolly Villanueva, Jeff Garcia, Neil Ayson, Joshua Woodson, and Cesar Sangalang came in fourth in the regular season of the Thursday League.

Wild Bill’s were the runners-up in the Thursday League with Pinangay as team captain and Formales, Kai Thamka, Juancho Mendoza, Nong Detdon, and Oliver Gragasin as members.

Cultura, Garcia, and Sangalang bagged the sportsmanship award for the Smoke Pub Ali’i Destroyers, while Jonny’s Team SCS—composed of Gomez, Joey Paranada, Bryan Fabre, Caloy Lubi, Rick Reyes, Jerru Tiu, Toto Bigcas, James Villacrusis, and Bob Webb received the same honor in the Thursday League.

Cultura and Mariano were named the elimination round most valuable players, while Butac and Cepeda bagged the finals MVPs.

Villanueva was the top performer for the Tuesday League with 38, while Rey Hermogenes had 30 for the Thursday League. The award is given to a player that had the most assists in the Partner’s 8-ball events.

Sangalang is the lone 8-ball on break winner in the Tuesday League, while Cepeda, Randy Sablan, Rico Montano, and Rolly Bermiso were tied in the Thursday edition.

Nelvis and Gomez were the Tuesday League’s Run The Rack recipients with Sablan and Hermogenes in the Thursday League.
