Woman gets suspended sentence for assault

A woman accused of assaulting two sisters, causing one to faint, pleaded guilty last week and was slapped with a one-year suspended sentence.

Carlet Ann Mendez Anota, 19, pleaded guilty to assault and battery. The remaining charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace were dropped.

Anota will be placed on probation for a year. She was required to pay a $200 fine, $25 in court costs, $616 in restitution to one victim, and to undergo anger management. During her probation, Anota is not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages.

Anota hit the victims on July 29, 2016, on Saipan. One victim was hit in the head, causing her to faint. She hit the other victim in the face and yelled profanities at them.

Assistant attorney general J. Robert Glass Jr. prosecuted the case.
