Woman pleads not guilty to bank fraud
A woman pleaded not guilty plea yesterday to allegations that she stole $12,208 from her mother’s savings account in the bank.
Janee Marie Famy Babauta pleaded not guilty in federal court to an indictment charging her with one count of bank fraud. Her jury trial will take place on Oct. 8, 2019.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy allowed Babauta to remain free until then but with conditions, including drug testing.
Assistant U.S. attorney Garth Backe, counsel for the U.S. government, did not object to Babauta’s temporary release.
Bruce Berline is the court-appointed counsel for Babauta.
According to the indictment, between March 20 and April 15, 2019, Babauta gained access to her mother’s savings account and stole $12,208 from it.
