Women came together Wednesday night to celebrate International Women’s Day 2017 at the Garapan Central Park in a meet-and-greet hosted by Women’s Affairs Office.

First lady Diann Torres headlined the different women who attended.

Women’s Affairs Office special assistant Dolores Reyes Drew and outreach coordinator Geraldine Sebaklim organized the event.

The night’s theme was: “The power of empowered women.”

A young woman, Annie, 14, said, “I wanted to come and support because women are becoming more powerful. Before, women were only at home, now we have women doing men’s jobs.”

When asked why the event was important to her, she said: “Hearing the accomplishments of the women here tonight is what I look up to so I can become a powerful woman too in the future.”

Torres said it is important for women to take time away from their busy schedules to think about women in general and what they have accomplished.

She believes that women in the community have come so far. “Women are really stepping up the ladder,” said Torres. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
