A fire of unknown cause burned down a security agency’s vehicle near Sherwood in Chalan Piao on Wednesday night.

No one was reported injured in the blaze, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde.

The vehicle belonged to G4S.

Gersonde said a security guard had parked the car in front of Sherwood and then conducted a routine inspection of the area. When the guard returned to the car, it was already on fire, Gersonde said.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the vehicle’s front part and inside.

Gersonde said they received a call from the Department of Public Safety’s dispatch unit about a possible vehicle fire on Wednesday at 11:25pm.

Gersonde said firefighters from the Susupe fire station and medics from the Koblerville fire station responded to the location.

At 11:38pm, firefighters placed the fire under control.

“The cause of the fire is undetermined and still pending further investigation by the Arson Investigation Unit. Updates will be released when they are available,” Gersonde said.

Last October, a fire of unknown cause engulfed a yellow Camaro that was rented by a group of Chinese tourists at Banzai Cliff in Marpi. No one was injured. DFEMS has yet to release information as to what caused that fire.
