Traditional medicinal healers harvest plants aboard NCTS

DEDEDO, Guam—In accordance with the Programmatic Agreement associated with the Marine Corps Realignment Project in Guam, Marine Corps Activity Guam has invited traditional medicinal healers aboard the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station for opportunities to harvest medicinal plants and to collect species for transplantation.

Prior to accessing the base, traditional healers, also referred to as suruhånu and suruhåna, attended training that encompasses safety and identification of unexploded ordnance, identification and risk mitigation to endangered and protected species, and a security background check.

These healers will be accompanied by Naval Facilities Command biologists and public access coordinator as well as personnel from Marine Corps Activity Guam. (PR)
