Man breaks into ex’s room with machete
A man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom with a machete after learning that she has a new boyfriend was found guilty last week.
At the bench trial that began Thursday and ended on Friday, Danilo Dinong Ibrao was found guilty of disturbing the peace, assault, and criminal mischief.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo however, found the 51-year-old Ibrao not guilty of violating an order of protection.
Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig represented Ibrao in the case.
Sentencing will be on Sept. 5, 2017.
During trial, the prosecution called three witnesses, including the victim. Ibrao testified in his defense.
The victim alleged that Ibrao sent her text messages, threatening to kill her if she starts seeing someone.
Police learned that the victim and her boyfriend were resting in her room on Aug. 20, 2016, when Ibrao used a machete to damage some louvers and cut a hole on the screen of the living room window to gain entry into the room. The victim called for police’s help. When he heard that the victim was talking to police on the phone, Ibrao fled. Police arrested him the following afternoon.
