Northern Marianas Athletics and the Commonwealth Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association are organizing a running event inspired by Star Wars.

Dubbed as “May The 4th Be With You, CNMI,” the running competition will offer both virtual and actual races with five different distances.

The Youngling Run will be a one-mile race and is only for runners in the U16 age group, while the Padawan Run will cover five kilometers. For the 10K distance, organizers will call the event the Jedi Knight Run, while the 21K is tagged as Jedi Master Run. The longest run in the competition will be the Jedi Grand Masters Run and will cover a distance of 42K. These five races will be virtual ones.

For the actual run, race director Ron Snyder and NMA will have the Mandalorian Run, which will have a 5K distance with the course starting and ending at the pavilion across the Oleai Sports Complex. The Mandalorian Run will be the highlight of the “May The 4th Be With You, CNMI,” as runners have to be in Star Wars costume when they negotiate the course.

Snyder said all participants will receive a digital bib, a finisher’s certificate, and a glow-in-the-dark medal.

For now, the “May The 4th Be With You, CNMI” is open to solo runners, but according to Snyder they are working on having a team event that they will call the Rebel Alliance Team Marathon.

To sign up, interested participants can go online via https://www.raceentry.com/…/may-the-4th-be…/view/2021. Registration fees in all events except the 5K for U16 runners is $10. Entry fees for the Youngling Run is only $5.
