Eleven awarded Saipan Chamber of Commerce scholarships

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce awarded scholarship grants to 11 students yesterday during its general membership meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Ballroom.
The Northern Marianas College produced four scholars this year, with rising college freshmen Amy Rayn Soliman and Tessa Jo Sablan declaring as Nursing majors ahead of the fall 2021 semester. Jamerie E. Paras and Maricon Bricia-Allen, who are both Business Management majors at the college, rounded out NMC’s Chamber scholarship recipients this year.
Seven scholars are pursuing higher education off-island. Ivan S. Blanco is a rising sophomore at the University of Guam studying Business Administration; Justin Del Rosario will be at the University of San Diego to study Chemistry on a Pre-Medical track; Ryan Kang will be at Bowdoin College to study Neuroscience; Theresa Zheng is currently studying Pharmacy at Northeastern University; Samantha Liske-Clark will be at New York University’s Abu Dhabi campus to study Biology; Stephanie Tan Flores will be at Illinois College to study Biology; and Katrina Costales will be at Whitworth University to study Front-End Development Design.
Blanco said after the awarding ceremony that he feels “excited and motivated to continue to pursue higher education.” He thanked the SCC, its board members, and his aunt in particular for “being there and pushing me to write and giving me great ideas for my essay.”
On stage to present the scholarships were several representatives of sponsors for the SCC’s 2021 Golf Tournament and members of SCC leadership. As the students received honorary certificates and shook hands with those on stage, pre-recorded videos of the students saying who they are, where they are studying, and what they plan on doing in the future played in the background.
